Coffin Treat Box

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Designed By Lennis Rodriguez

This awesome coffin makes a great treat holder for your Halloween party table. The assembly is a simple tab/slot type, which can be reinforced with glue or lacing. The lid is hinged with lacing so it closes and opens to reveal the goodies (or other scary stuff!) inside.

Skill level: NONE

Step: 1

Bead Colors Needed:

  • Red - 316
  • Cranapple - 186
  • Orange - 40
  • Plum - 490
  • Purple - 132
  • Dark Grey - 317
  • Black - 4328 - 5 bags
  • Raspberry Pearl Stripe - 190
  • Gold Pearl Stripe - 202
  • Silver Pearl Stripe - 68

See the Supply List for beads and tools you can purchase here. You will also need:

  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • Clear plastic lacing
  • Quick-drying adhesive - optional
Step: 2

Download the PDF for the Coffin Treat Box Project Pattern. You will use 6 large square pegboards for your project assembled as indicated in the project pattern. Cut out the patterns and tape together in the same way. If you are using clear pegboards, slide the actual-size patterns underneath them. Place your beads on the pegboards as shown on the pattern.

Step: 3

Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool.

Step: 4

Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat step two. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.

Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step: 5

ASSEMBLY: Layer the top and bottom coffin lids together and insert the lid locks through the two pieces.

Step: 6

Insert the handles into both long side panels facing outward.

Step: 7

Assemble the coffin by connecting the side piece bottom tabs to the openings in the base. Carefully connect side tabs with side slots. Secure with glue or lacing if desired.

Step: 8

To attach the top of the coffin, thread lacing through the beads indicated in dark pink above on one long side and the lid bottom—3 sections of 6 beads each. Knot at the end of each section to secure.
