Download the PDF for the Flip Flops Project Pattern. You will use the large heart, small heart, and small hexagon pegboards as indicated on the project sheet. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Now, place all the beads for the design.
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool.
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat step two. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.
Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.
ASSEMBLY: To assemble the flowered flip flop, cut two pieces of lacing. Following the black lines below, knot one end on each piece then insert the other end up through the flip flop at the toe area. String 2 yellow beads onto both pieces of lacing at once. Next, split the two pieces of lacing and add on the flowers. Lastly, string 6 yellow beads onto each piece of lacing and then go through the flip flop on the sides and knot at the bottom.
To assemble the turquoise flip flop, cut two pieces of lacing. Knot one end on each piece then insert the other end up through the flip flop bottom to top at the spots shown. On each piece, string 5 black beads. Thread both pieces of lacing through 1 more black bead, then go down through the flip flop and knot the ends.
For the orange flip flop, string 21 round beads with the clear lacing in the same manner as the design above—10 on each side on one at the toe.
Assemble the magenta and yellow flip flop with clear lacing like the turquoise one above, using 6 beads on each side—a mix of magenta and yellow—and 2 at the toe.
