With Perler beads, you can create a Friendship Necklace as a gift for your BFF, or collect and trade friendship bead disks among all your friends. You can even choose a bead color as your signature color for trading. Use the colors we did, or choose your favorites—the possibilities are endless!

Step: 1

Bead Colors Needed:

  • Light Pink - 24
  • Bubblegum - 24
  • Red - 24
  • Pink Candy Stripe - 24
  • Sky Blue Stripe - 24
  • Cucumber Stripe - 24
  • White - 24

See the Supply List for beads and tools you can purchase here. You will also need:

  • Matching ribbon or cord
Step: 2

Download the pdf for the Friendship Necklace Project Pattern. You will use the small circle pegboard to create your projects If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads following the pattern. Make as many disks as you like; to create the necklace shown, make 2 disks in each color.

Step: 3

Ask an adult to fuse your designs. NOTE: This project is designed to create flattened disks, so unlike our usual instructions, you SHOULD iron the circle until the holes close up and the disk is flat. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. For this project, press down with the iron so that the beads will flatten and form disks. It's ok if the bead holes close—that is how this project was designed. Let the disk cool.

Step: 4

Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat step two. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.

Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step: 5

ASSEMBLY: String the disks on ribbon or cord to create a necklace. To wear, tie the ribbon in a knot or a bow.
