Download the PDF for the Jungle Stripes Necklace Project Pattern. You will use the small hexagon pegboard to create your projects. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads following the pattern.
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool.
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.
Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.
ASSEMBLY: Thread a 40 inch piece of white waxed linen cord through the top yellow bead on the pendant. Secure in place by tying the cord into a double knot. Thread one black bead both ends of the cord. Slide the black bead to the top of the pendant and knot.
Spread apart the two pieces of cord to create the left and right sides of the necklace. Working on one side of the necklace, slide beads onto the cord and all the way down to the pendant in this order: black, light brown and yellow. Knot the cord to hold the three beads in place. Place the cord and beads on a heat safe surface. Using ironing paper and just the tip of the iron, fuse the three colors together. Let cool then flip the beads over and repeat. This process will create a tri-colored bead.
Next, place a round bead on the cord and knot to secure. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until both sides of the necklace have the desired number of beads. Leaving a few inches for a tie closure, trim excess cord.
Cut an 8 inch length of jute cord and wrap it around the pendant a few times to accent it. Knot the ends in a square knot and trim excess cord.
