Download the PDF for the 3D Turkey Place Cards Project Pattern. You will use the small circle pegboard to create your projects. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads following the pattern.
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool.
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat step two. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.
Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.
Tail Feathers—Oven-Melty Technique: Warning to Parents: the baking must be done by an adult only. To create the tail feathers for your Turkey Place Cards, use a muffin tin and set your oven to 300º. If you have silicon inserts for muffin tin, use those for each tail feather cup you are creating. If not, spray the muffin tin thoroughly with a non-stick baking spray.
Create an autumn colors bead mix with all the colors listed for this project. Pour enough of the autumn bead mix into the muffin pan to just cover the bottom of each muffin cup, then pat some in place going up the sides about an inch. Carefully place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and allow the beads to melt. Check the results every few minutes and pull the tin out when you are happy with the effect. The beads will flatten and stretch when melted, creating an interesting texture. Remove the tin from the oven and allow it to cool. If you used non-stick spray, carefully wash the cooled pieces thoroughly by hand with dish soap.
ASSEMBLY: Center and layer the smaller feet piece onto the larger one, and glue in place. Turn the body at right angles to the wings/leg piece and insert into the slot. Insert the legs into the opening in the feet piece and glue.
Turn the tail feathers piece on its side and glue the turkey’s body to the inside of the cup.
Cut a small rectangle of yellow cardstock and glue a slightly smaller piece of tan cardstock on top. Punch two small holes in the upper corners. Tie a short thread hanger through the holes. Write the name on the tag and hang it around the turkey’s neck.
