Step: 2
CREATING THE DESIGN:
Download the PDF for the Wake Up and Be Awesome Project Pattern. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads as shown.
Step: 3
FUSING THE DESIGN: An adult should do this step.
For this project, we recommend our Tape Method for Fusing Large Projects (you can find it here on Perler.com under Projects & Inspiration). If you are more comfortable with our standard fusing instructions, please continue below.
Be sure you have placed one of the large cardboard pieces underneath the pegboards. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the design. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. NOTE: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly; it is possible some colors may need a little more time. Let the design cool.
Remove the paper from the bead design. Place the second large piece of cardboard on top so the design is sandwiched between the two cardboard pieces. Flip the design over and remove the pegboards to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. When the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.
Step: 4
FINISHING:
Hanger:
Cut two 18" lengths of yarn for each color. Tie the ends together in a knot. From back to front, push the long ends of the yarn through the open hole at the top left of your sign so the knot is on the back. Braid the colors to create the length of hanger you want, then push the ends through the open hole at the top right of your sign from front to back. Tie a knot and trim the ends.
Pom Poms:
Decide how big you want your pom poms to be (ours were approx. 1-1/2" in diameter). Cut a sturdy piece of cardboard to half that width, and about 5" long. Cut an 8" piece of yarn and lay it along the length and tape lightly in place. Next, wrap the pom pom yarn color around the width of the cardboard over the single piece you taped in place. The more wraps, the fuller the pom pom. When you have enough wraps, remove the tape from the single yarn piece, and tie it in a tight knot around your wraps at one edge of the cardboard. With scissors, cut the yarn from the cardboard at the opposite side of the cardboard. Fluff your pom pom and give it a trim if needed. Make 2 more, then tie the pom poms to the bottom of the sign.
