Download the PDF for the Mom and Me Bracelets Project Pattern. You will use the small square pegboard for your projects. This design uses a colorful combination of beads and rods. When using beads and rods together in a design, both are placed BETWEEN the pegs. When you are working with beads alone, you will place the beads on the pegs as usual. Place your beads and rods on the pegboard as shown. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it.
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Beads ’n Rods projects are ironed ON ONE SIDE ONLY so the rods stay rounded on the front. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. Press the iron gently for 5-10 seconds, then begin to iron In a circular motion. As the beads begin to fuse, you will see the beads and rods start to show through the paper. When ironed properly, the beads will still have an open center. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool.
Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.
ASSEMBLY: Use 10 links for Mom’s bracelet, and 8 for the daughter’s bracelet.
Cut two 15 inch pieces of elastic cord for each bracelet.
Thread a piece of elastic cord through the front of a prickly pear bead on one of the links. Go around the back of the pink rod, then back up through the prickly pear bead on the other side. Thread a magenta bead onto the elastic. Repeat until you have connected all of the tops of the links of the bracelet.
With the curved side of the rods facing out, bring the end of the cord together so the links form a circle. Tie the ends in a secure knot and trim the excess cord.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 to thread together the bottom of the links of the bracelet with the other piece of elastic cord. Before knotting the ends, tie one of the charms onto the bracelet. Knot securely and trim the excess.
