Step: 2

CREATING THE DESIGN:
Download the PDF for the Football Silhouettes Project Pattern and print the pages you need for the projects you want to make. Assemble the pegboards as shown on the project sheets, placing them on one of the large pieces of cardboard on a heat-safe surface that you can later use for fusing. Cut out and tape together the pattern sections to match. If you are using clear pegboards (highly recommended), slide the actual-size patterns underneath them. Place your beads following the pattern.

Step: 3

FUSING THE DESIGN: An adult should do this step.
You can use our standard fusing instructions, or for large projects on multiple pegboards such as these, you might prefer to use Tape Method. Whichever you choose, take your time, be patient, and work methodically. This is more of an art than a science.

Standard Fusing Method: Set a household iron to the medium setting. When working with a large design on multiple pegboards, you’ll want to fuse an area at a time and cover the rest of the design with the second large piece of cardboard with heavy weights (books work well) to hold the beads in place. Place ironing paper over the section of the design you will fuse. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly, but it’s possible additional heating time may be required. When ironed properly, the beads will be well connected but still have open centers. As you finish an area, move the cardboard and books to expose more of the design and weight what you have completed to prevent any possible curling. Let the design cool.

Remove the paper and check your fusing—you can do additional spot-fusing as needed. Once you are satisfied, cover the design again with the cardboard. You’re going to flip the design over to expose the non-fused side—a second set of hands will be helpful. Repeat the fusing and let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Check again to make sure your project is securely fused. Note: Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.

Masking Tape Fusing Method: Many Perler artists are having success with the Tape Method, especially on large projects. You will find detailed instructions in the project pattern PDF.

Step: 4

ASSEMBLY: Paint the canvass or fabric-wrapped frames to create the backgrounds for your pieces and let dry. Using quick-drying adhesive, mount your Perler designs to the frames as shown in the photo. For the Quarterback Pass and Receiver designs, adhere the football piece into position as a separate layer. Do the same with the arm/football piece for the Ball Carrier.
